Workshop on “Data Protection Act 2017

Date & Venue: Tuesday 6th March (Intercontinental-Balaclava)

The legislation on protection of data which dates back to 2004 has been reviewed in December 2017, firstly to modernise our data protection laws in order to face the growing challenges of new information technologies and globalisation.

As a consequence, the Data Protection Office has adopted a new data protection legal framework, i.e. the Data Protection Act 2017 which came into force on 15th January 2018.
Secondly, this new Act has therefore been aligned with international standards like EU General Data Protection Regulation, which will come into force in May 2018, and the European Convention for Protection of Individuals with regard to Automatic Processing of Personal Data (commonly known as Convention 108).
The purpose of this workshop was to educate about the changes brought forward in the amended act.
